Just Got New Kicks- Supra Skytop Silver!

We just proclaimed the 15th President of the Philippines a few hours ago and the whole country is celebrating this momentous event. President Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III,the youngest ever to assume the post,  will bear all the hopes and dreams of all the Filipinos for the next 6 years. And what better timing to go out and get new kicks- The Supra Skytop Silver!

I originally wanted to get a Nike Air Force 1 High Top in All White but after seeing these pair of  Supra’s, I just can’t take my eyes off it! The laces that came with it didn’t excite me at all so I  replace it with a white one with gold threads, just to pimp it a little bit.  Yes, yes, I will take photos of my new pair by Friday. I just really hope the rain lets up so I can shoot outside.

Now, if I can just find a nice pair of pants to rock this look…. Wish me luck!

I SOOOO Missed Blogging!

Or writing for that matter. =P

It has been X (put a random number here) months since I last wrote anything and I’m re-evaluating things if I can continue doing this (again).  It has already escaped me why I stopped writing and when people ask me why I did, I literally blank out and just blurt out random stuff like: “I’m busy.” “I have bad internet. LAG!!” or just “I’m too tired to write na.” Nowadays, I just stick with “I’m busy“. (I think it just sounded cooler, though pathetic at the same time.)

What I look nowadays. =P

While cleaning/updating my Facebook page, I sort of noticed all the links I’ve posted and wondered what happened to my “lost boys.” This was the first I one I checked out. Then it all came back to me: the hard work I’ve put into designing my own icons (the link icons on the right); my header (which I think now is awful) ; the events I covered just to churn out good reads for you guys and just simply the plain joys of writing.

I’m not into cubing anymore . (I still average around 20+ seconds on a good day) So I bet I can still kick your ass any day. Just kidding! I still watch a ton of movies, listen a broader range of music (I’m so loving dance music right now!) , watching new shows (Glee and Hitman Reborn!); and travel a lot. I haven’t posted any new vidoes on my YouTube Channel. Though I’m planning to do so in the near future. I’m also currently trying to relearn the guitar. Why? Hmmm… It’s quite a long story and I’ll probably answer that as soon as I upload a song online. Maybe I’ll also post pics of my last adventure in the upcoming days. Who knows?

That’s all for now, gotta rest. (I was also out sick today.)

Thanks for reading! See yah around.

One Year of Cubing: the Anniversary Post

Whew! I can’t believe that it has been a year already since I solved my very first Rubik’s Cube! It was a crazy but fun journey whenever I look back at my good ol’ speedcubing days. I met a few speedcubers, travelled several dozen miles to get or sell the hottest puzzles and impressed a couple of girls along the way.  It was also the very same passion that sparked the creation of this blog site, the lame videos on my YouTube Channel, and prompted me to do a demo on a friends birthday party and several more embarrassing situations I’d rather charge to experience a.k.a. forget.

I love lists and I know you love ’em too! So here are some interesting trivia after 12 months of speedcubing:

  • 16 – the number of Standard 3×3’s I currently have, not counting the ones I gave away.
  • 77– video tutorials from speecubers around the world. From Nakajima, Badmephisto and Erik Akkerdjik, I got them all here.
  • 19.93 seconds– the fastest I’ve ever recorded for the 3×3.
  • around 30+ seconds – my current estimated solve time. Could be worse!
  • Eight– the number of people I taught how to cube: Marvin (42.5 sec.) , Charm (1:12:35) , and RJ (1:15:46)were the fastest.
  • 3– the number of 2×2 cubes in my collection, not including the mini-siamese cubes I got from my friend from the Middle East.
  • Zero – out of the three possible competitions I could’ve possible joined. Don’t ask.

Trooper Entry Log: Orbiting the Moons of Despair

Earth Time: 1100 Hrs

Orbiting the Moons of Despair

RGM-100 Medics Specialist/ 501st Battalion

More than 37 days has elapsed since I, RGM-100 Medics Specialist of the 501st Battalion, decided to abandon my training in the Academy to pursue my true heart’s desire. For the past 5 weeks, I am alone in my cruiser ship with only provisions being sent every end to the week, enough to keep me nourished as the days go by.

According to the latest computations, I currently have an average of 1.5 job applications per week with roughly 4 interviews every 5 days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays of course. I passed all the pre-employment exams they have thrown at me, got the highest scores possible for any human and reached the final interview phase on all occasions. I have yet to receive any word yet from the Human Resources Department from those companies, however I somehow sense that I won’t be receiving one anytime soon.  Applying voice pattern analysis algorithms and past encounters of their kind, readings suggest that they are quite hesitant to employ a trooper with my credentials because of the high attrition rates generated by my comrades of the same affiliation. They fear that I will be just using their company in achieving my own personal gain, leaving the enterprise as soon as better opportunities arise.

I am quite alarmed and aware of this fact and I’m worried that this job hunting task I’ve set upon myself will take longer than expected. Alas, I am still positive that I will be able to land a job and company worthy of my job ethics, intellect and passion in the (hopefully) near future. What they did not include in their computations is the human variable embedded withing my DNA.  I am hot-wired down to the cellular level to do my hardest to be loyal and grow within the company.  IF, and only IF they give me the chance to showcase my skills and talents.

RGM-100 out.

Philippine Blog Awards 2009

I opened my e-mail just a few minutes ago and found a single mail in my inbox. The sender address read: PBA09 (no-reply).

WTH?! I’ve been getting a lot of spam messages lately.” I told myself.

However, the subject line said: ” PBA09: You have been recommended!” Gee. PBA? The Philippine Basketball Association? Seriously? I haven’t watched a single PBA game since the Alaska- Ginebra Glory Days! What is it about this time?

It turns out to be a nomination to this:

Wow! A very good friend of mine actually nominated me for this year’s Philippine Blog Awards! (Oh! That PBA.) It prompted me to fill out a nomination form, requiring me to post a small banner on my home page and confirm ownership of this site. Awesome.

Rico Blanco and an Angels and Demons Review

After getting my phone repaired at the SM North Samsung Service Center, I immediately went home to rest after a long, tiring day at the KomiKon Summer Fiesta featured on my previous post.

I got home, slumped on the couch and turned on the television to catch the newest episode of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood on Animax. Mixing a liter of Apple Juice to refresh my senses, I thought this would be the perfect ending to an exhausting day… Boy, was I wrong!

Little did I know that my older brother and mom was planning to eat out and watch a movie afterwards. We quickly scrambled to get dressed and quickly found ourselves at the new Sbarro branch at the also new SM Fairview Annex. I was quite surprised that Rico Blanco was going to perform right next to where we were eating and it hasn’t started yet!

He sang a lot of old favorites from his Rivermaya days and some songs from his newly released album Your Universe. He was still very good, like he never left the music scene for even a second. His unique voice sent waves upon waves of  charm to the female fans present during the mini-concert and left the rest of us in awe. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture it on camera since I didn’t bring any! T_T

We didn’t finish the gig though since we still had to watch Angels and Demons, under the direction of Ron Howard. Again,  the movie was on a “Single Screening” policy and the guards were so tense right before the movie started. The guy who tore our tickets in half was repeating this line for the Nth time and was quite irritating:

“Angels and Demons po? May I remind you that camcording is prohibited inside the cinema po. Okay. Enjoy the movie!”

I was wondering why are they doing this to presumable innocent movie-goers. As if the constant flashing of the warnings regarding film piracy inside the theater, billboards, posters etc. wasn’t enough. Hello? As if a film pirate would intentionally record a movie on an SM Cinema right? Why don’t they try elsewhere? Last pirated movie I saw that had markings of a foreign theater atmosphere was cam corded somewhere in the Soviet Union. How did I know? Russian subtitles.

Let’s get on with it shall we?

Angels and Demons

Synopsis:

The team behind the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels & Demons, based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard…  The team behind the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels & Demons, based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who once again finds that forces with ancient roots are willing to stop at nothing, even murder, to advance their goals. Ron Howard returns to direct the film, which is produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and John Calley. The screenplay is by David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman.

What terrifying discovery would make the Vatican turn to Robert Langdon, the man who cracked history’s most controversial code? When Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati “the most powerful underground organization in history” he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization’s most despised enemy: the Catholic Church. Upon learning that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, Langdon travels to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist. Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow the 400-year-old Path of Illumination that marks the Vatican’s only hope for survival. –© Sony Pictures

Comments:

Surprisingly, this movie was better than the previous Dan Brown offering. It stayed true to the the novel with only minor changes to the plot. Movie-goers who hasn’t read the book yet, really appreciated the fast-paced action of every scene, the mystery surrounding the Illuminati and the awesome scenery inside the Vatican City.

I wouldn’t touch the plot side of this film since it’s an adaptation of a novel written by Dan Brown. Readers of his novels knows how ridiculous and impossible his plots are, and everyone knows that if we compare Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code novels head-to-head, the latter takes the cake.

The novel was boring as hell, and even with all the puzzle solving, map-reading and the twist at the end, it was still very predictable. (a.k.a. boring) But what Ron Howard did for this movie was surprising! Though he didn’t focus with the history of the sculptures, buildings, etc. as much as the movie, (which made the novel quite a nice read) he focused on the action part of it. Adrenaline was pumping all through out the film and surprising everyone at the end. The cinematography was great and the background music made it more thrilling to watch.

Don’t be fooled by Robert Langdon‘s (Tom Hanks) partner in the film, it’s not a love story. (No, I won’t comment about Tom Hanks. he’s always great.) If you’re looking for romance, this isn’t the movie. Same thing for comedy, everything is taken seriously in this movie. Maybe even too serious. Tom Hanks’ character didn’t even crack a single joke worth laughing at. If you’re looking for a fast-paced thrill ride with an awesome view to boot, this is the movie for you.

Verdict:

3/5 – Good enough to watch with your family and friends.

Just keep in mind though that it has an R-13 rating in the Philippines.

(Meaning that children aged 13 and below cannot go in even with adult supervision.)

Ciara’s Sweet 16

(quote from my Dad) Bertday nga palang ng nakababata kong kapatid. Ayos lang. Later na lang ako maghahasik ng lagim. Heto ang ilan sa mga nakunan ko…

Teka. Ano?! Mga naka-bikini?? Heller! Pinas kaya ‘to…

Sa Bora ka lang makakakita ng ganun. Pag nasa resort ka, naka-t-shirt o kaya naman mala-higanteng jersey na inarbor ang suot ng mga kababaihan ‘no… Asa ka pa. ^_^

Shempre, hindi mawawala ang group picture.

Kunwari, Paparazzi ako.

Dapat daw makunan lahat, sabi ni boss.

Ako naman. (Iwasang masuka.)

Pwede 'to isangla ah.... -aLpmobs

Manakot daw ba? Hooray!

Lungs full of water and more…

A surprising (?) heavy rainfall suddenly erased all thoughts I had for today’s blog. AND I was excited to exercise by punching away, however, the sudden rain made us push back the clothes that was hanging outside to where I was supposed to box. Darn.

Instead, I clocked the solves I did with my Rubik’s Clock and here are the individual times:

21.51
21.96
18.53

21.04 Ave of 10 Excluding Fastest and Slowest Time

I’ve had this puzzle for a while but I rarely played with it, not until now. It’s nice to have a much better average than the one I had way back early this year. If I can keep this up or have a sub 20 average by Friday, I would definitely skip the KomiKon this Saturday and join the Bulacan Open instead. Oh, and here are some photos of me from our little swimming trip yesterday at the La Mesa Ecopark with my family.

This usually happens to me during family outings. They’ve become so used to it,

they don’t notice it anymore. LOL!

(Notice my younger sister just passing by me on the upper left portion of the pic.)

Didn’t know that you could use a Standard Rubik’s Cube as a flotation device.

(Maybe if you’re an ant.)

I fell asleep waiting for someone to rescue me.

Anyway, a lung full of pool water is a common occurence in my life.

Some additional trivia, there were around 4 lifeguards around the pool and not even one dared to check if I was conscious. I think they were more preoccupied with little kids blocking the exhaust pump. Haha!

You’re still alive? FTW!

Underwater Cubing? Really?!

It is possible.

Here’s the video description:

It’s Mother’s Day and there’s no better way to celebrate it
than swimming!

I can’t resist the urge to solve one underwater!
(though I wasn’t fully submerged)

NO Snorkeling Gear, NO Goggles.
Just balls… Err… I mean cubes.

NOTE:
I used a Type A DIY that I wasn’t using.

Shot on location at the La Mesa Ecopark.

If you could hear giggles from the video, it was Mom trying to distract me! She was successful in a few occasions, leading me to gulp pool water. Yuck.

Free Comicbook Day, Wolverine and A New Personal Best!

I just saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine a few hour ago and one word could sum it all: AWESOME! Everything was great! The storytelling, the effects, gee! I’m just disappointed that the movie had a “One Screening Only” Policy… I wanted to watch it again!

The movie ran for about an hour and forty-five minutes and they really used it well. They didn’t rush the scenes, and made sure that it was played like a biography of an indestructible fighting machine.

SPOILER ALERT: The Squad Wolverine was in was so cool! Agent Zero (sharpshooter) , Wraith/ Spectre (Will.I.Am!!) , The Blob (didn’t know he was thin before! LOL!), Deadpool (without the mask), Sabretooth, and the guy who can turn stuff on and off! (Didn’t catch his name, he died in the movie anyway….)

Though some scenes were annoying, (no, I won’t mention which ones) and it was nice that the movie had a few laughs in it.

SPOILER ALERT:  The Blob was strangely “sensitive” about his weight that when Logan called him “Bub”, he punched him, sending him across the room, thinking that he was called “Blob.”

Watch it! Non-fans of the whole comic book to movies genre would certainly love the way the movie was handled. It won’t leave you guessing what’s happening on-screen with this flick…

And hey! It’s the first Monday of May tomorrow and you know what that means? No? Well, it’s Free Comic book Day!

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. *Check with your local shop for their participation and rules.

Used by permission. Copyright 2009, 20th Century Fox, All Rights Reserved.

In the video above, Hugh Jackman, star of X-Men Origins: Wolverine talks about Free Comic Book Day, and the importance of comics in fighting illiteracy. This is followed by a theatrical trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

And here’s an invite from Mr. Gerry Alanguilan:

And according to his announcement, he will be signing and sketching at Comic Odyssey, Robinson’s Galleria, Ortigas, Metro Manila on May 2, 2009 for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY.
http://freecomicbookday.com/

He’ll be joined by Leinil Francis Yu, Edgar Tadeo, Jay Anacleto, Gilbert Monsanto, Wilson Tortosa, Stephen Segovia, Harvey Tolibao, Jay David Ramos, Elbert Or, Budjette Tan, Kajo Baldisimo, Romulo Fajardo, Jan Michael Aldeguer, and many more.

In my cubing progress news, I timed myself two nights ago and was pleasantly surprised by the result. Here are the times I got:

Bora Fridge Magnets

Hey! The house is getting much noisier now! And if most people would get irritated by this, it was the opposite for me. You see, Mom and my sis already came home from their vacation at around 6 in the morning. I was barely awake when the dogs were barking like crazy when I opened the door, got their luggage and went back to sleep. Mom also got to go to Boracay and got me some trinkets to give my friends. Here are two of them:

Oh, both of these are fridge magnets. (I guess I really should give them away since I don’t own my own fridge yet!)  ^_^

Sadly, I also had my haircut today. (Sorry no pictures to laugh at yet! Hehe!) I visited trusty David’s Salon at SM Fairview, but my stylist wasn’t there. I forgot that today was his day off. Sigh. So I just said, “Okay, anyone will do.” So I had my hair cut short, and I described it to the new stylist that I wanted to have a cut that could be considered “semi-formal” and could be transformed into rockstar mode at the drop off a hat. It was over in a few minutes and I felt weird.

Where was the Korean / Anime vibe that I had going? Gosh! I look… Normal. Regular. Nothing special.

Oh well, I guess I just need to get used to being “normal” or “regular” for that matter. If you know me, I bet you’ll understand how I feel. But if you don’t, well… I can’t really put into words what I’m feeling. (Which is unusual.)

Anyway, according to the First Law of Alchemy, “Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.” In this sense, I will be getting new speakers for our PC tomorrow. The old one already got busted a few weeks ago, with the bass giving a really awful sound. That’s one thing to be happy about!

So how was your day?

New Speakers! Woot!

Turning 24…

Alas! Amidst all the rage surrounding the Swine Flu outbreak in the States, a crazy week full of precipitation aka rain (very rare during summer in the Philippines), the  rescue (?) of the Red Cross volunteer in Mindanao and tons of other stuff I won’t even write about…. I celebrated my 24th birthday yesterday. Woohoo!

And to the people who might get upset that they didn’t get invited, it was supposed to be a closed family affair .  But since kuya sponsored the blow out, he told me to invite a few friends over.

Don’t be too upset. It was like a children’s party anyway, minus the party hats and party favors. ^_^ Not even a single drop of booze! Darn!

Kuya made four pizzas by hand (though the pizza dough was from the supermarket) and I made Pasta Alfredo more commonly known as Carbonara. The food we made was a hit and I’m very glad that they thought it was awesome, despite only serving 2 dishes.  Mom and my little sister is still in the province so we had very little help preparing everything. It was like:

  • 9:00 AM I woke up and made some breakfast.
  • 9:30 AM Clean the house inside and out. (Ooooh! It’s not raining!)
  • 10:00 AM Prepare all the stuff to be used and wash them all up: plates, spoons, cooking pots, etc.
  • 11:00 AM Rest. (My older brother is still sleeping and my younger brother hasn’t come home yet.)
  • 11:30 AM Cook lunch.  Just corned beef with potatoes and onion.
  • 12 Noon Eat lunch while starting to boil water for the pasta.
  • 12:30 PM My older just woke up and I’m starting to cook the pasta.
  • 1 PM Started chopping all the ingredients for the Carbonara. (Rap2 just arrived.)
  • 3 PM Finished everything by then but no one has arrived yet, so I showered instead.
  • 3:30 PM The first guests arrived! Time to party!

This post is long enough so here are the outtakes:

Oh, if you’re curious about the recipe I used, here it is:

(NOTE: I cooked a kilo of Pasta so I just doubled  everything.)

Ingredients:
1/2 kilo spaghetti noodles
1 can campbell cream of mushroom soup
1 can carnation evap milk
1 beef cube bouillon
bacon bits (for toppings)
ham
1/2 quickmelt cheese (grated)
2 cloves garlic (chopped)
1 onion
butter
1 Nestle all-purpose cream
1 can button mushroom (chopped)

Directions:
Saute onion and garlic in butter. Add cream of mushroom. When the sauce is starting to thick in, add evap milk and all-purpose cream. Add the beef bouillon. Stir continuously. Add mushroom and ham. Then add 1/4 of grated cheese and stir until almost done. That’s it. Enjoy!

Ave. of 10 Solves = 25.20 Seconds

Yep!

rain or shine x 10

T’was a sunny afternoon today! Great! Perfect time to get some things done. ^_^

Went to Ortigas to send a package over to Negros Occidental…

Had lunch at Robinson’s Galleria…

Had my picture taken…

Renewed my license at the PRC…

And the it rained again.

The headache that followed wasn’t much of a surprise anymore. Aaaarrggh! Just after I finished all the steps to renew my license as a Registered Nurse. (What?!! You’re a nurse?!!) Yes, indeed I am.

  1. I got a form, and filled it out.
Then glued a passport sized pic with a white background and a name tag to boot.
  2. Photocopied my old license.
  3. Went to Window 16.
  4. Paid Php 450 at the Cashier at the far end of the building.
  5. Submitted everything to Window 18, and then I got my Claim Stub.

(Sorry if I sound bored today, it’s hard to type with a pounding headache.)

Went outside, and surprise, surprise!

It was raining. Darn.

Good thing I brought my trusty black mini-umbrella. (When I said “mini”  I meant that it’s only for one person. So piss off! I’m not sharing! LOL!)

Though I’m literally suffering, I’m so glad that the day has come (after 3 years) for me to change the picture on my old license card. No, don’t say “Pffft! It’s just a picture!” Let me here you say that when this was your license:

Master Yoda had better days.

Master Yoda had better days.

I intentionally didn’t have my haircut just yet so this would be my pic for the next three years:

Still looks s#!tty eh?

Still looks s#!tty eh?

Yeah right! After three years, nothing much has changed!

Small trivia: the photo studio photoshopped this and removed the spiky things athe the side of my head, pretty much like the ones on top! LOL!

WTF? Get me out of here!

sunlight…too…bright…

Bright light is hurting my eyes…

Oh, t’was just the sun.

Already 11 AM, and I’m still sleeping in our living room. My eyes still hurt and my body is aching, and just like previous summers in the province, I stayed up late all night.

Why?

I was alone in the house. No one was around. Then I told myself, why not make the most out of it? But since I can’t play loud ELectronica dance beats (and without a cool, sound system to boot) since it was Holy Week, I just resorted to reading uhmmm… “interesting” posts on a forum I found online. (Really!) Yeah, it was very different from high-volume pumping beats passing through every cell of your body. But it had the same effect: lack of sleep.

Lying on a makeshift bed just beside the window, the sun’s rays was taunting me to face the day ahead.

But wait.

This feeling is so familiar.

The warm bed, bursting sunlight, the rumbling sound of passing motorcycles outside and a fired-up fan to keep me cool…
Yes, it feels like I was transported, about 5 years back to my mom’s hometown in Looc, Romblon.

With just a population of 19,898, it’s usually quiet in this town , just a couple of breast strokes to the world-famous vacation spot, Boracay. The early hustle of the local townsfolk normally wake me up during the wee hours of the morning, but today was different. More jeepneys and tricyles are driving around today, than usual. Oh right! We just came home from a sound system gig in the Town Plaza, for the Annual Fiesta celebrations. We finished up around 4 in the morning and I was dead tired. Carrying around speakers around my size wasn’t easy! But hey, sure was fun! Gosh, how I miss those days...
We actually lived there for a year, when my grandma migrated to the States and I also studied Grade One at the only primary-level school within miles, Looc Elementary School. I endured all the scorching afternoon soccer games, boring classes and even more boring tutorial lessons. (As if I needed it before.)

I remember kids around would call me names like: Tabachoy, Tambok, Tambuki, etc.. All meaning one thing: Pig. Of course I was hurt, because I didn’t understand why people would call you such names. I knew they were ugly (aesthetically, and morally) but I don’t go around shouting it at their faces! Good thing, a local High School teacher (guess the name of the school, lol) heard it one afternoon, while I was just walking down the street. She just got home. She saw me teary-eyed and a little angry at some kids, whom I don’t even know. She approached me and asked me if I was okay. At this point, I couldn’t hold back my tears. I cried like a baby and she hugged me a bit while explaining something to me in forced Tagalog. (She thought, I don’t understand Visaya.)

“Let them be. They are a bunce of idiots who have nothing to do. The next time they call you names, call me and I’ll scold them for you. If your grandfather was still alive, he’ll tell you the same…”

“But what if nobody’s around?, I asked.

“Then tell them, that they’re just jealous because they are not as “healthy” as you.”, she said softly.

I just smiled and went home.

And ever since the neighborhood kids called me names, I did just that! (And it worked!) I was so grateful (and ashamed because I cried) for this old lady who comforted me that day, that I sort-of ignored her a few weeks after. But after the bullying stopped, she would greet me whenever I passed by her house, as if checking how I was doing. I would just nod and smile.
She was my hero that day. (or heroine, whatever.)

Now I wonder, how is she doing or would they even try to call me Tambuki ever again?

Just a thought. Happy Easter!
