Carlo J. Caparas- NOTional Artist

Okay, I’m going to make this quick.

You’ve heard him blabbing on the radio.

You’ve seen him horribly defending himself over the air.

Now, his lugging around his suitcase full of junk (aka old drawings) just to prove he CAN(?) draw.

Though after it all, he refuses to accept the fact that he is definitely NOT a Visual Artist nor should be recognized as a MASSACRE film maker.  He did not draw any of his “obras” nor make us drop our jaws in awe “visually”. I agree with Mr. Gerry Alanguilan’s stand on this issue and I feel it in your heart that you do as well. Heck! Even the Lord Vader made all Stormtroopers sign the petition! But this time, he did not even have to threaten us.

In this issue, I think Mr. Caparas is not worthy to be a recipient of the National Artist Award. Nonetheless, it is not Caparas’ fault to be awarded with such. It’s the system, from the Administration of GMA and National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA)

This is an issue of “delicadeza” or being sensitive over delicate matters that affects personal and national morals and values.

I mean are you comfotable to receive an award or honor under the shadow of doubt and public protest? Most of all, will you receive an award if you are the incumbent head of the Award giving body which is NCCA and also a Presidential Appointee? I am referring no less than Mrs. Cecile Guidote-Alvarez.

The controversy is a sign of our malignant sickness in the country, particularly in the government– the loss of our sense of “delicadeza”. The same is true to government officials who stick themselves on their chairs when they have already lost the confidence of the people who placed them.

What prevails is the culture of “lutong-makaw” and “kakapalan ng mukha”.

    • What I don’t get about Mr. Caparas is that he ADMITS that he did not draw the masterpieces that supposedly got him the award (for the visual parts side) and he KNOWS that they (the added N. Artists) did not pass the criteria set, but still, he refuses to give back the scandalous award! (even asking for more!)

The others gladly returned the merits they received however, this CONCEITED person lacks (or simply ignores the facts) the sensitivity you mentioned in your comment.

Should he return it? Is he deserving? Is he NATIONAL ARTIST MATERIAL?

According to the twisted mind of Mr. Caparas? Yes, because he is “masa” personified and the elitists are just envious.

But did he answer our question? No, he was too busy giving away hundred dollar bills during the interview.
